Why Every Hooper Needs to Master Both Instagram and Twitter

As a high school scout and college coach, one of the most common questions I get from high school players and their families is: "Should I focus more on Instagram or Twitter for recruiting?" My answer is simple — if you're serious about getting noticed, you need to use both, but for different reasons.
Instagram is your visual resume. This is where I go to see who you are as a player. I’m looking for highlight reels, training clips, and even how you carry yourself off the court. Reels and Stories give me a snapshot of your game, your work ethic, and your personality. It’s not just about dunks and threes — I want to see your footwork, energy, and how you handle adversity.
Twitter (or X, as it’s now called) is your professional bulletin board. It’s where you post your game stats, academic achievements, and updates like offers, visits, or invites. More importantly, this is where coaches talk. We follow hashtags, retweets, and mentions. If a coach, scout, or respected trainer tags you in a tweet, you're on our radar. And don’t sleep on the DMs — this platform often becomes the first line of direct communication.
Bottom line? Instagram builds your brand, Twitter builds your network. A strong presence on both platforms tells me you're serious — not just about basketball, but about being seen and recruited at the next level.
So if you're grinding in the gym every day, make sure your digital presence works just as hard. We’re watching — and recruiting — in both places.
